Snowball Express
I had the extreme pleasure of getting to spend most of the day yesterday following around and photographing some very special kids on a very special day. Snowball Express, an organization dedicated to creating hope and new memories for the children of our fallen military heroes, hosted an event at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. We had the additional honor of being joined by families of the Wounded Warrior Project. For most of these kids and their families this was the first time to attend a rodeo, and the HLSR is without question one of the finest rodeos in the world. I was honored to join a large number of volunteers from all these organizations to in a small way enrich the lives of these wonderful people who have sacrificed so much in securing our freedom.

Thou Shall Prosper
I’m reading an outstanding book I would recommend to everyone. The book Thou Shall Prosper by Rabbi Daniel Lapin (available directly from RabbiDanielLapin.com or at a reduced price on Amazon) is an outstanding discussion of what Rabbi Lapin refers to as “ethical capitalism”. Using timeless Biblical truths he describes “ten commandments” of personal prosperity (which also serve and enhance the lives of others). As a Christian it is interesting to note that Jesus taught about finances more than any other subject. However, this is suprisingly not a “money book”. When I bought it I was apprehensive it might be another Joel Osteen style “Prosperity Gospel” book. It is instead a book which challenges the way you think about the world you live in – and in so doing has subtly but profoundly changed my own world view. So you’re not left guessing those 10 commandments are:
- Believe in the Dignity and Morality of Business [[This was VERY eye opening for me!]]
- Extend the Network of your Connectedness to Many People
- Get to Know Yourself
- Do Not Pursue Perfection [[Ouch, that one really stuck home!!]]
- Lead Consistently and Constantly
- Constantly Change the Changeable, While Steadfastly Clinging to the Unchangeable
- Learn to Foretell the Future
- Know Your Money
- Act Rich: Give Away 10% of Your After Tax Income
- Never Retire
I am not done with the book yet but I am really enjoying it and learning from it - and I highly recommend it! I’m thinking of creating a permanmant link to a recommended reading list - this book would definitely be on the top of the list.
